Growing up I was always fascinated with other cultures. My grandfather had an amazing collection of books and I would constantly flip through the pages of Roman, Greek and African mythologies. Things really made sense once we got cable in India and I spent hours watching television.
So its no surprise that over the last few years, I have lived on three continents – Europe, India and the US and that I work in research, predominantly focusing on consumer behavior and market insights, and that too in the entertainment business. I like to say that all that TV viewing finally paid off.
I started my career as a business researcher in India, and have since worked at several media/entertainment organizations in the US. I found my way into Digital Media through a seminar class on Social Media at UConn. I went into it thinking hey I like Facebook and its a 6 week course, win-win and and totally feel in love the complexity of the topic. Its a fantastic environment that is constantly evolving.
This blog is a perspective on social and digital media trends, innovative marketing campaigns, and consumer behavior. Digital, and Social in particular, have changed the dynamics of consumer behavior. Viewers and shoppers are no longer shackled to their TVs, to schedules, and to brick and mortar stores. More importantly, every consumer with access to a smartphone/computer/tablet has a platform to share their opinion. This represents a vital shift in the way brands need to do business.
